Hi all,

I am planning to weld my own exhaust on my 1.8T engine out of a 3" pipe. I want to make the car road legal so i want to put a cat on it and have the stock exhaust as backup.
My problem is i can't find any decent priced 1.8T cat at scrap yard here, but i do find a lot of cats from 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 engines.
Are the cat's interchangeable ? If yes, do i need to pay attention at any specific items? anyone has any tips?

Not an expert, but I suppose a cat is a cat. The only difference may be how much flow the one has compared to the other, but a restriction should only be an issue when mounted on a high power vehicle. And surely the flanges may differ per model and year as well. Cats are high value items at this moment, whether new or used. Have you checked Marktplaats?

Yeah, i checked. Nothing special or in my area. Could only find one in north of Netherlands, close to Groningen.

I got info from other forums that a standard cat is pretty cheap. Found a 2.5" 200 cell cat for 70E or 3" 200 cell for 110, which is cheaper than a second hand cat for any motorization.

better to by a orignal used one than a imitation brand new one.
search for a 2.0 or 1.6 cat that will not be a problem.
